About, Inspirations, and Implementation
As you’ll come to find, my project is an AR RTS game. I was inspired to do this project because of two things: the success of PokeMon Go and some game concepts I came up with during a Game Concept and Theory class. I’ve always had a passion for video games, but I never wanted to create just some bland game that was like the rest. I wanted to create something familiar but ground breaking. So, I wanted to take the familiar concept of Pokemon Go and the trope of “RPG character imbued with the elements” and create something new and intriguing. And that’s how I hope it stays, going on to create games people will love and creating new and innovative games.
The goal is to get people to be invested in a fully immersive AR game. Seeing the characters battle in real life at real time instead of in a virtual realm will make it more wanted and original. The best way to implement the game is using (mentioned in the research plan) Android AR SDK. The game will have a somewhat anime-inspired style. The art prototypes are easy and can be fixed as such, but prototyping the code, UI, and gameplay will be hard. I will know the game is heading in the right direction when: a) the characters show up properly on camera, b) the characters will scale to the size of the battleground, c) the stat systems work, d) the menus are accessible mid-game.
