To be honest I have had a lot of homework in other classes so I haven’t been able to do much work for thesis. The main problem I have is that I have never actually made a plot for anything like this. I want it to be a supernatural fantasy story, similar to Gravity Falls, Supernatural, or Riverdale, but I always have trouble deciding on the specifics. I do think I am going to make a comic instead of an animation but even that might change once I’ve developed the thesis more.
I think my main hurdle is deciding on an antagonist or a conflict. At least with how my brain works once I have a problem I can craft the story around how that problem affects the characters, and how they go about solving it. So the most important thing I have to do is figure out a plot so I can start designing the rest of everything really start making my thesis.
The other concern I have is that I have never made a comic nor a long animation before, and I am dreading having to stay consistent in my art style for the whole project. I know that will come with practice but I am still worried about it.
And here’s Buddy to brighten everyone’s day
Hi! Plots are scary! But for the route you’re going, I have something to throw out there: dreams. Ask people around you about the wackiest dreams they’ve had, think about crazy ones you’ve had, and look online and see what weird dreams people post there. Dreams (including nightmares!!) can be a great source of inspiration for creating strange, out-of-this-world ideas because they are experiences not rooted in reality and not bound to the rules of the natural world, which can help you get out of that thinking if that’s a problem you’re having.
I definitely understand the difficulty of coming up with a plot, it can either be daunting of just kind of confusing. One thing I’ve done is just think about what I’m worried about at the moment. That can be anything from mundane things like homework to larger concepts like the state of our planet’s environment. Just pick something that you think you can work with, and think about what the conflict is there. Say you went with homework, the conflict is either that it’s hard to do or procrastination, or something along those lines. Then think about how you want to represent that, such as with the main character putting off some assignment or even a quest for whatever reason, and the antagonist tries to make sure they’ll never get started. Basically, think about whatever conflict you’re currently having, and see how that can be turned into an animation or comic.
