Georgia’s Start of Spring Semester Update

This past break I started working on actually building my game, Escape the Room: Murder Castle. I managed to completely finish the overall layout of the escape room and have a plan of what order the player will be able to enter each room in. Once I finished the layout, I created a document with all of the furniture I want to include in each room, as well as a loose order the rooms will be entered into. I then worked on making the main pieces of furniture in each of the rooms and have prefabs for most of them that I have been using to make more assets.

Although I didn’t manage to finish a prototype of the game like I originally wanted to, I am happy with the progress I have made so far. I don’t necessarily think I underestimated how much time this project would actually take, but I definitely underestimated how many little steps I needed to complete before the game is anywhere near playable. With that being said I am currently working on getting the rest of the furniture complete so I can start coding the details of the game.

  1. Wow! What an accomplishment you have made, sounds like you are doing an amazing job on progression towards making this game come to life. Im super excited to see what you create. By saying that you finished the overall layout do you mean you have started coding it? If so, how long did it take to complete. Try to take that into account when planning out how much time you a-lot on other aspects of the game. I know you are worried about how much time all these little steps take, we all know game designers take shortcuts in the details. I suggest focusing on the interact-ability more than the small details! If you have time leftover then you can go back and fine tune things. Hope that helps and good luck this semester!!!

  2. I really liked the progress you had made that you showed during our first day back. You had a lot of the furniture made for the game which was great to see and I really could get an idea for the vibe/atmosphere of your project. I really appreciated how detailed/texturized everything looked and I think you are making great progress. It definitely sounds like you are staying organized with what you want to accomplish. I really like that you’ve been writing down the different elements you want to make and include. I would continue to take advantage of the Trello board we need for class to help organize what you want to make and what has been completed.
