Well this is a little awkward, but I may have gone a little too far into the noir theme I want to work with as it ended up being the only thing I researched. In doing so, however, I did get to do some mental character crafting for the bigger project. I also began some concept art for our hard-boiled detective protagonist. I haven’t decided on colors quite yet.

In terms of the Noir elements, I discovered what the history of the Noir genre/subgenre (its debated among professionals), explored the roles of females and males in Noir, investigated the tropes of the Flawed/Anti-hero, the Femme Fatale, the Anti-Villain, Bad Communication Kills, the Amoral Attorney, and the Hardboiled Detective. Lastly I explored the more narrative elements of Noir like the plots, the dialogue, the setting and other such things, and I explored the more technical elements of Noir like lighting, music, and what camera settings would be apt for a film such as this.
I’m gonna be taking this information and using it to build up a narrative within the environment, the script, and the two characters I plan on featuring within the 5 minute animation. There will more than likely be more minor characters as I plan to implement flashbacks throughout the film as the first-person hard-boiled detective dialogue is spoken. The more technical information I’ve explored will definitely be helping me in Unity as I edit the lighting and camera settings/angles. This next week, I will be focusing on cyberpunk elements and music of Noir and Cyberpunk films.
