Molloy Thesis Update: Start of Spring Semester 2021

Since I have last posted a blog on my thesis, I have definitely made some solid progress. As a refresher, the 3 main portions of my project consist of creating/launching a new merchandise line, improving the website interface, and filming/editing a compilation video for each of the five restaurant locations. A lot of the projects that collectively create the “Tito’s Burritos & Wings Marketing Adventure” take a lot of planning before real results can be seen.

For the merchandise project, I am currently in contact with a colleague of Tito’s Burritos & Wings who has given me a plethora of options for different pieces. After conducting polls on multiple social media platforms, I narrowed down the pieces that I am going to design. I am looking to design a hoodie/crewneck, sweatpants, and either a baseball cap or a beanie. I am comparing prices for different materials, different pieces, shipping, design prices, and other variables to determine the end decision. While those choices are being made, I have started a little sketchbook of possible designs to be printed on any of the pieces previously mentioned. My goal is to have at least one prototype for each of these pieces printed by the IMM Senior Showcase so that I can see my vision come to life even if launching this as a full-blown merchandise line ends up not being profitable for the company’s sake. Regardless, I am gaining so many new skills from this one aspect of the project alone.

For the website interface portion of the project, I am constantly involved in editing many different aspects of the webpage but I am also individually creating a new page for the website called the “Tito’s Tribe.” Over the break, I created a google document in which I jotted down all of my possible notes and questions that I had surrounding this project. Then, I started to layout the photos and descriptions that I already have prepared for the page before I begin to make mockups or standalone pages on the website. I also reached out to our marketing colleague, Jimmy Page, the head of Hudson Creative, in order to get some feedback and guidance on building a successful addition to the website. The next step is to start making these notes/sketches/plans come to life on BentoBox, our website provider!

For the video portion of the project, I have created a google document that displays tons of different shots that I intend to capture for the videos that I am going to film/edit/post. This part of my thesis is probably going to be the last to come to fruition because it is dependent on me borrowing Cage materials. I will need to borrow them several times which might be complicated and I also want to wait to film until the Spring because the lighting will be better, the weather will be friendlier for more outdoor shots, and hopefully COVID-19 won’t be as big of a threat as it currently is. With this being said, I will continue to map out my plans for this so that when I do have the opportunity to film, I will know exactly what my vision is and use my time effectively. I also know that I will be editing primarily in DaVinci and uploading to Youtube & BentoBox.

With working full time and completing this project, I have found it easy for myself to get overwhelmed. I have found throughout this thesis experience so far, that getting my work done ahead of time and just even doing 10 mins of work a day really goes a long way in staying organized.
