For my third prototype I created three different potential homepage designs on Adobe XD as representations of what my app might look like. Mostly, I wanted to experiment with different color themes and layouts that would all consist of the same material.
I got lots of very valuable feedback from the class on my designs. Some people’s initial reactions were that the designs seemed a little overcomplicated from an initial viewing standpoint. This of course is something I want to avoid since one of the goals is for the app to have a very simplistic design that anyone can understand even if they do not know very much about my concept. I aim to design something that it not cluttered and can be easily understood in terms of the functions. This was the case for my design with the ‘dashboard’ feature which possesses a lot of different elements just on the homepage and may have appeared overwhelming to some people.
Another comment/suggestion that was made was that I could consider making the home screen somewhat customizable in the sense that users could choose from different layouts. I thought this was an interesting idea because it would give users control over what they specifically want to view in the app. Since the prototyping presentation in class, I have altered some of the functions of the app in order to narrow it down to some key functions. For example, I think I am going to eliminate the ability to meditate within the app because it does not really coincide with the other functions of the app and the main goals I desire.
I also would like to aim for a design that is not corporate looking and has simplicity, but also originality within the design. I’ve come to the realization that the generic greetings I included in the top which say “hello, *insert name*” are uncreative and do not really serve much of a purpose. Thus, I’d like to explore more methods of creative terminology as well as communicating visible transparency with the user. These prototypes allowed me to see what I could design on an initial stage and will also allow me to have a clear idea of what I can focus on over winter break in order to establish a central design.
