The professor challenged us to do something more difficult as part of the prototyping process. I decided to take him up on that challenge and demoed out a scene where the detective comes around the corner, glances at a hologram advertisement, and contacts the police chief. This was done via Krita, which is the 2D animation software I will be using for the main bulk of this project with the other software more than likely being Adobe After Effects and Audacity. This was also the prototype where I learned about log lines during the discussion previous to the actual presentations, and I drafted up this one sentence as an elevator pitch: “A betrayed detective reminisces about the past and the current state of his corrupted city through flashbacks”. For now, that is what the pitch is going to be as the only suggested change was to go from “central city” to “his city” which I did enjoy a whole lot more than the stand-in name. What I hoped to learn from presenting a demoed version of a scene was to test if I could actually achieve a fully detailed, lit, and animated animatic by the end of the year next semester. Another objective at the presentation was to speak about the social issues I wanted to comment on through the production of “After the Fact”. These issues being over-advertisement, corrupt metropolitan police forces, and racism (which is interpreted towards certain species being discriminated against(which looks a lot like Zootopia (whoops))).
Yet again, through a series of questions I did not write down when I probably should have, I gained suggestions from both the class and the professor on how to establish a more coherent approach on the social issues. They also proved to be encouraging the project and suggested that I try to learn how to use the entire screen to convey information, such as events or details (even the smallest count) going on around the main focus of the scene to tell the bigger story. I have always been a big fan of that method of storytelling, so I will be researching environmental storytelling and how to implement it so I can avoid shouting the bigger picture from the rooftops.
