Pat O’Callaghan Prototype 1 review

For my first prototype I created a series of sketches to show the steps of how I intend for my project to work and a rough version of the user interface. This was done with the intention of learning if my thought process was clear enough and to determine if there were any major design flaws or areas that needed to be rethinked/ reworked. When presenting these sketches with my peers, I attempted to talk through the process of using my project as well as its functionalities. This process was successful in identifying areas in my design that need some more careful consideration and ultimately changed what I would think about for my second prototype. The major things I learned and took away from this prototype was that the multi user interaction could benefit from being simplified, initially I had designed it with the idea of having a list of friends whom you could invite to collaborate, build, and play together with, but it was brought up in one of the discussions that it may be more optimal to implement a link sharing method. With this, you could just generate a link to your session and share it with others for them to join you, which in hindsight seems more simple and quicker than what I had originally had planned. The other major revelation about my first prototype that was brought up by my peers was the question of “where will the camera be situated while you are building?”. This was a very valid point and brought to my attention a major design feature that needed more focus, and ultimately changed my plan for the second prototype because it was something that really needed more thought for it to work effectively with the rest of my current design for my project.
