Courtney- Prototype #1

So for my 1st prototype, I mapped out about 1/2 of the flow of the website (at least I think it’s half). I thought I would wait until next week to complete the entire flow. Check out my Miro board here: https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_kg8rl54=/

I spoke to Ault earlier last week and had shared my thought process with him as to how it was going to work. I created a digital mock-up on Adobe XD (it’s very low fidelity). I was just getting an idea of what my project was actually going to be doing) Here’s a link to the prototype: https://xd.adobe.com/view/a8fe40c0-fcda-450b-a527-7405bc0f650a-fdad/

I talked with Ault about what I was thinking and I want to do some kind of cartoon/animated kind of style where the website game is interactive since the topic I’m tackling is a difficult. I would like to approach it in a friendly way in which users aren’t overwhelmed in not understanding AI and the complicated aspects of it.

I watched a Youtube video that gave me the inspiration in the style/approach I wanted to go for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9OHn5ZF4Uo

I think the little robots are really cute and I think I’d want the intro screen to have a little animated cartoon of one waving and text says “this is you” with an arrow to make it easier to understand + more fun.

For what I want the users to look like, I made a Pinterest board of what I kind of envisioned in my head: https://pin.it/34j6Asj I thought it’s super cool how for some of them, they’re animated and their facial expressions change. If I end up having more time/motivation, I think including that would make it more fun and interactive rather than just stagnant and flat. In terms of how I’d create the characters, I think I can do it on Illustrator and then import into After Effects or another Adobe program to rig it if I choose to animate them a little bit (this is very ambitious, not sure if I’ll get there). That’s where I’m at so far, definitely didn’t get as far as I think but I think I have a better idea of the style of my app.

What I made:

A simple clickable prototype mainly focused on the flow of the experience. I mainly wanted to see whether it made sense to everyone and whether or not there were some things that could be clarified.

What I learned:

There are MANY ways I can go about this. Patrick had suggested that I list some of the user’s likes and dislikes, but then I should have some information redacted and the player’s goal is to try and figure out what the redacted information is. It would be kind of like a trial and error kind of thing and the player needs to sort of figure out the puzzle and learn just as an algorithm would.

Another person suggested that with the character I illustrate, I could include some kind of background that gives more information about what they may like. They could be in their room and there could be a poster with basketball on it which hints to the player that this user is a basketball fan; I thought this was really clever and cool since it’s a little small detail that adds more fun to the game.

The last suggestion I got was for the player to focus on choosing content for one user and then at the end of the game, they would need to recall the likes and dislikes of their user since this is how AI/an algorithm is essentially is learning about each individual user. This was another interesting suggestion that I didn’t think of; I’m still unsure as what I’ll end up doing. Originally, I was planning to do something with privacy settings of some sort but I need to think about what kind of method best portrays what I want players to understand about AI.
