For my research this week I wanted to start to identify what programs might fit best for my intended project. Originally I was looking into ARKit, which is an Augmented Reality developer kit from apple. However, while I was reading through their page, I saw that it is supported by UNITY so i decided to see what other Kits/plugins were available for UNITY and saw that there were a couple others listed that I was not originally aware of and decided they were worth looking into before coming to a decision. Some of the ones that were listed were Unity MARS, AR Foundation, ARCore, and XR Interaction toolkit. After looking at what options were available, I looked into basic tutorials for AR to and determine which one may be easiest for me to use as well as which might fit my needs the best. Further looking into tutorials and learning about how the programs work and what differentiates them should be one of my main priorities so that I can choose the best tools for the job I have in mind. Below is Unity’s overview for AR Foundation:
For the physical portion of my project I did some experimenting within Bricklinkstud.io to get used to the software and how it works for designing with Lego. It works in a similar manner to the Digital Designer that Lego had a few years back but the catalog is up to date with all of the current pieces and has some additional features for making prefabs, etc. The way the workspace is set up is also a little similar to Maya/other modeling software which I have some experience working in that kind of workspace. I will post images in the comments of some screenshots of the workspace and my practice with the software.
