As it stands, a refresher on what exactly my thesis is.
A summary of “Beat ’em Up! You’re the Summoned Hero!”
“Beat’em up! You’re the Hero!” is a beat’em up style game at its core. The frame for it is that the main character(s) you play have essentially been kidnapped from there world and have to now travel across different worlds and locations collecting certain items so that they can get back home. The player will traverse these different worlds fighting enemies of various shapes and sizes, using different combos and abilities to defeat the foes that stand in their way. Following along with the narrative, the player will be introduced to various characters throughout their playtime that will help to inform them of the world around them. The gameplay is primarily 2d focused with side-scrolling being the typical way players advance through the game.
Now with that out of the way, let’s talk about some of the progress that I have made at this moment.
Disappointing news first: Not that much progress has been made.
Now admittedly, this mostly has to do with my schedule being busy as I am still currently working, so my attention is split between school and working 5 days a week. It’s hard, very hard for me as I’m really not used to working like this but it’s whatever. Anyways, my main point is that the amount of progress I’ve made isn’t enough to really show anything super cool just yet, my plan is to have something for next week instead.
Goodish news last: Boy have I been drawing.
The art assets and such are my main focus currently, as I have a basic code that I can use for some of the game done, though it needs some touching up here and there as of now. At a base, the current code is really just being able to move left/right, jump, and punch stuff but I have to figure out how exactly I want to enemies to respond in combat scenarios so check back in the coming weeks about that.
For art stuff, I haven’t gotten anything concrete done for the game but I can show some line art that’s… okay and probably won’t make it into the game as it’s mostly a reference for another thing but I need something to show and here. Ugh, looking at it like this I can see more stuff off about it then before, it’s a work in progress, but yikes the posture and stuff is more jank than I thought.
