After reviewing the feedback that I received on my initial ideas, I have decided to pursue my first idea. My first idea is to make a live action short film (around 5-10 minutes) with a CGI character. I chose this project because it combines my knowledge of film and 3D animation. This project will allow me to not only improve my 3D modeling and animation skills but also my storytelling ability.
The film will be about a girl that builds a robot from household objects. After many failed attempts, an inventor has finally created a functioning robot prototype. The film will question whether technology is an appropriate substitute for human interaction.
The robot will be the only CGI character, which I will design, model, and animate. I will combine practical elements and CGI in order to bring the robot character to life. The video below gives an idea of how I would like to blend live action footage with a 3D animated character.
My first step in pursuing this project will be to begin writing the script and designing the robot character. I will then storyboard the film before shooting and creating the 3D model. I have already begun researching how to shoot film for CGI. I have my iPhone to shoot the film, but I will probably either rent out or purchase a camera. To create the 3D model, I will use either Maya or Blender. I will also use Premiere Pro and After Effects for editing and VFX.
