There are two reasons as to why this has taken me so long to post. One being terrible time management and the other being the fact that I have no idea as to what I should do for my project still, so I’m hoping that the three ideas I post here will provide some direction as to where I should go with thesis.
Idea 1 (Skills most prominent in portfolio): Designing a game in Unity where I would investigate how commands entered outside of the game by an audience influence the game and the player’s ability to play the game. I would research how twitch integration worked and how the Jackbox games function as these are the two inspirations for this idea. Using Unity would provide a solid framework for designing a prototype like this as I know how to import custom elements into the workspace.
Idea 2 (Similar to idea 1 but exclude similar skills): I would make a short 3D noir detective scene where he would interact with other people and the environment around him. This would depend heavily on my skills in Blender/Maya and would provide the perfect opportunity for me to learn Blender 2.9 as I prefer that to Maya. It would also be a good opportunity to engage my voice acting interest.
Idea 3 (off the cuff): User personalized nutritional dieting and working out phone app on IOS and Android. This would be something entirely new as I have never approached the idea of making a phone app.
Hi Tom,
As I gave some feedback in class on your second idea, here are my typed out thoughts:
Firstly, as I said, making a short film/scene in Maya is likely easier than you might imagine. I recommend putting an appropriate amount of time designing and building how the detective’s office will look and what conceptual design ideas you can implement to add something fresh to the genre (this is remarkably similar to my thesis idea too, so hoping you’ll do this for both our sakes XD). You might also want to consider buying an environment for your scene, and focusing more on the character animation. As I mentioned to Dylan, it really depends on what it is you want to showcase, but I would strongly urge you to work smarter not harder and waste no time on anything that you don’t want to do for a career, as I imagine you’ll use this as a portfolio piece for employment.
Hope this helps! -Greg
