Video Response- Steve Jobs

I watched the Steve Jobs video. I enjoyed his story about dropping in on classes that seemed interesting. I’ve been a musician my whole life, so when I got to TCNJ I auditioned for choir because why not. I got into Chorale and fell in love with the Music Department. I looked at all the classes that were offered and realized I wanted to take quite a few. I never planned on minoring in music, but after looking at the requirements vs. the music classes I wanted to take as electives, there were only a couple more classes I would have to take to complete the minor. Throughout the semesters in Chorale, there were always upperclassmen who would lead warmups and conduct songs. These were my friends that I looked up to, and I wanted to be just like them. I talked to Dr. Leonard about taking Conducting 1, even though I didn’t have all of the prereqs fulfilled. Fortunately, he let me take the class and I absolutely loved it. The bar was low that semester, but it was one of my favorite classes. I’m now in the second level this semester. I have way too much going on this semester and I considered dropping conducting, but the desire to take the class won and I stayed. While I know I will be completely overwhelmed with all my responsibilities, I look forward to taking this class and developing my skills as a musician. If I had never looked at music classes that looked interesting, my college experience would have been drastically different.

  1. That’s a great story Adina, I can honestly say I relate to that with Marketing because coming into college I probably would’ve never considered taking a marketing class. But, once I came to college and realized some IMM classes would count towards marketing and took that first marketing class it made me realize I wanted to minor in it and take more marketing classes.
